距上一张全长时隔三年之后的新作，6X7重回独立乐迷视野。这支已经成立12年的独立摇滚老团更显淡定，声色把玩信手拈来之意尽显独立音乐的跨界本色。个人听感就像缺失人声的澳洲独立团“搏斗艺术”（Art of Fighting）。在感情色彩的隐敛上较后者更胜一筹。如果形象点描述，听者和创作者的影像都虚虚飘浮于声音之中。对不需要明确指向性的听者来说，这张封面很北欧的新专是不错的选择。换言之，惯于“按图择音”者很容易发现所得非是。

跨界所以流行？其实是听者愿意加的废话。20岁的Zach Condon只是因为少年游历时受巴尔干民谣之风熏陶才将之敷演成声。至于美国化绝对不是有意为之。在我来说，大半夜听着这么一个少年“老成”的小男声是件很享受的事。

氛围依旧，可听性和整体性更强。从配器上听来取经于室内流行处甚多。也因为这一点，像第五曲感觉已经近于沙发音乐。不过这还是今年为止较为喜欢的一张。

It's easy to hear that Quixoticism is the work of an obsessive songwriter and bedroom sound engineer, tempered as the record is with careful consideration to vocal effects and delicately layered harmony. It's Psych-pop that becomes, in the later tracks, something as progressive (in instrumentation if not in vocals) as Broken Social Scene, if on a smaller scale, with darker undertones.

Ron Lewis, who has worked with Fruit Bats, The Joggers, and Colin Meloy, is the man behind this project. For the most part, I really enjoy the music on this record. I take issue with the vocals, which sound strained at times, and song names.

Song titles like "Even a Vampire Wouldn’t Drink My Blood", are needlessly mystifying. In this case, of course a vampire wouldn't drink your blood; a vampire is a spiritually active creature with discerning tastes: much like the discerning music fan, who wants just the right flavor of erotic, suggestive, or bloody lyricism.

In terms of the vocals themselves—where my biggest qualms lie—I guess they sound really toyed with. From the overly breathy singing on "We Wear It Like a Stained Glass Window", to the sparkly falsetto on "The Nettles In Your Mouth", they clearly have some kind of sound processing spread thickly over them. In addition, both those tracks have "ooo-la-la" type vocals in the chorus line which I have a personal aversion to. Though this point may be pedantic or music-geek-esoteric, I only like very visceral noises (yelps, growls, shouts) if the singing has to abstracted.

The naturalistic atmospherics of chirping birds and rushing surf on "The Motions" are what really hooked me into listening carefully to the album. That track is certainly a standout. In addition, "Secret Life of the Union, Part II" has a fantastic bouncy, Of Montreal-esque, introduction and bass line. As an added treat, at one point the song busts open in a torrent orchestral instrumentation, before collapsing back into the refrain. The previous track, "Isn't It Appropriate That Way", really listens better and is informed by the energy from "Secret Life of the Union, Part II". It's a truly dynamic track that’s worth hearing, even if the album as a whole proves too restrained or poised for many.

又一个现代杂种。。indie，氛围，folk，间或还乎隐乎现一些钉鞋碎片。套子不错～

Damon Albarn spent the first half of his career as a pop provocateur, but he's spent the second half as a musician, and nobody seems more surprised about this than he is. After achieving Nineties stardom with Blur, he's settled into a head-down, hardworking life of adventurous projects like Gorillaz and his new band, the Good, the Bad and the Queen. The group is an odd mix, to say the least -- Clash bassist Paul Simonon, Verve guitarist Simon Tong and Africa 70 drummer Tony Allen, plus the production of Danger Mouse. But the eclectic elements combine for dark, muted balladry a la Syd Barrett or the Beatles' White Album, with a touch of dub. Fantastic tunes like "Kingdom of Doom," "Nature Springs" and the doo-wop pastiche "80's Life" set the tone for the album's strange beauty, but it peaks with the cinematic strings and megaphone-vocal melancholy of "Herculean."

曾经的污点男Damon Albarn继大猩猩后的又一新队，开始有点经典的味道了。味道8错！

The curiously named !!!, whose moniker can be pronounced by repeating any one-syllable percussive sound three times (e.g., "chk chk chk"), formed in 1996 after the demise of the mid-'90s hardcore act Yah Mos. While on tour, members of Yah Mos, including !!! singer Nic Offer, envisioned forming a band oriented more toward danceable music, and once they returned to Sacramento, CA, their hometown, they decided to turn their working concept into an actual group. The band quickly grew into an eight-member ensemble, including Mario Andreoni on guitar, Offer on vocals, Justin van der Volgen on bass, Dan Gorman on trumpet and percussion, Tyler Pope on guitar, Allan Wilson on saxophone and percussion, John Pugh on drums, and Jason Racine on percussion. Fusing the groove-oriented style of James Brown's backing band with the edginess of Gang of Four and the Contortions and featuring an expansive percussive presence, !!! spent its first few years as a group developing its sound and playing at house parties for friends in Sacramento. At the same time, Offer, Pope, and van der Volgen were playing in a dub-inflected instrumental outfit called Outhud with Molly Schnick and Phyllis Forbes, two musicians who used to be in the band Raoul. After putting out a 7" on Hopscotch Records and a split single with Outhud in 1998, the two bands decide to release a split full-length together in 1999, a release jointly sponsored by the Sacramento-based label Gold Standards Laboratories, founded by Sonny Kaye of Angel Hair and the VSS fame, and Zum, a San Francisco-based zine. After extensive touring of the States, which gave them a chance to further expand the songs they had written by placing them in the interactive context of a live show, !!! recorded and released a self-titled album on GSL in December 2000. Soon after, the band re-entered the studio and recorded enough material for a second album. Members of the band moved to New York, but the group still remained intact, planning regional tours and tape trades across the expanses of the Midwest. In 2003, the band issued Me and Giuliani Down by the School Yard (A True Story), their first release for Touch & Go. They followed it up with one of 2004's best records, Louden Up Now, which was released in June.

我相信很多人选择一听这个乐队，原因和当年的我一样，都是由于他们的团名，!!!，确实令人印象深刻。warp的出品当然不可能不电，他们的特点是在idm之外，带着hardcore和funk的味道，可一如既往的不能让我很high。

The cogwheels on the Puissance warmachine are back to work, as defiant and innovative as ever. "Grace of God" re-invents the current notion of Martial-Pop, with their own superior combination of sumptuous Neo-Classical and Industrial music.

Three years after "State Collapse", the cogwheels on the Puissance-warmachine have been fine-tuned and put to work again, in a crushing motion that seems to be as defiant and innovative as ever. Forerunners in blending post-Industrial soundscapes with seemingly Wagnerian inspired classical scores, the Swedish duo's controversial portrayal of human life often tends to raise a mix of conflicting feelings towards them.

In keeping with such tradition, this return by Puissance serves as a lucid statement on current world affairs. In Soderlund's own words, ""Grace of God" is partially meant as a commentary on contemporary events both social and political. Our goal is to inform yet retain a poetic undertone to frame our analysis of world politics and objectives. This album focus heavily on the foreign policy of western civilizations particularly inspired by neoconservatives and other proponents of economically based genocides in third world countries. Rather than subscribing to any political agenda, Puissance stands out as artists against the political and financial motives that have led up to numerous unresolvable conflicts that are on the verge of plunging us into the third world war."

Musically, "Grace of God" could well be referred to as a re-definition of the currently over-abused Martial-Pop term, yet Puissance's own superior combination of sumptuous Neo-Classical and Industrial elements raises any potential Pop anthem to an entirely distinct level. More melodic and vocal-oriented than before, this latest opus also comes to expose a more rhythmic approach that had been hinted at in previous releases, but which has now morphed into a powerful and relentless driving force in Söderlund and Möller's compositions. Compellingly militant as well as beautifully apocalyptic, "Grace of God" finds Puissance in top form, presenting a fine compendium of all bits and pieces that the band have been flirting with throughout their career and incorporating them in a unique style which will again set new standards, as they have been known to do in previous outputs.

"Grace of God" is available in deluxe Digipak edition, containing a data track whose contents can be unlocked only via a custom made player made available at www.puissance.info. Equilibrium Music will also be releasing a re-mastered and re-designed edition of the band's 1998 album "Back In Control" at the same time.
