Calexico/ Beirut The Guns of Brixton/ Interior of a Dutch House split single City Slang 7” http://www.cityslang.com Article written by Ged M Dec 3, 2006. Calexico transplant the Clash’s hymn to urban strife to the desert and it more than survives the journey. I sometimes find Calexico a bit too polite but here the Tex-Mex tones of picky acoustic guitar, wailing trumpet and Spanish vocals work perfectly in maintaining the edge and the colour. Strummer, I’m sure, would have approved. On the other side, Beirut’s ‘Interior of a Dutch House’ shows off Zach Condren’s songwriting skills. Far from the Balkans sound of ‘Gulag Orkestar’, this is a weird sort of melodic alt.country, with a big thumping piano sound and orchestral infills, plus resonant vocals a little like Sufjan Stevens. It’s a grower and shows there’s more than one string to his bow (or the rest of his instruments). This is released in a limited edition of 1000 to tie into the recent tour. 整张试听:
