基本情况：在新古典创作上为单人，因为喜爱中世纪和新民谣音乐，曾担任B52、智齿吉他手的博文于06年7月参与进来，让Gol Dolan有了新的血液，有了更多演绎空间。

自己：我在阅读、想象、欣赏里成长，感知成了最大财富。之后才有了音乐制作设备，和更多乐器，自己的一种方式才能表达。在音乐中有着我的忧伤、浪漫、嘲笑、游吟、力量。，当我有了曼陀铃，拨弦而出的中世纪短小精炼赋有古韵的乐句时候。我被还原了。回到古老的中世纪，穿上粗布麻衣翻身上马，开始了我的游吟旅途。

大事记：2005年11月在Dying Art 发行新古典风格Demo——《Flowing Lights》。同年12月Demo中部分作品选在城市管理广播107.3，历史建筑内容节目中做为配乐

      所有对欧陆文化抱有兴趣甚至景仰心态的人们都可以从那些风格多样、流派繁杂的诸多艺术形态中找到自己的兴趣所在或心灵栖身之所。譬如今天我要提到的这个可爱的北京小伙儿就带着一腔吟游诗人的情怀腼腆的、优雅的、青涩的投入了中古音乐与幻想国度的奇妙意想中去了。这个吟游诗人我们就叫他“古尔·道兰（GOL DOLAN）”吧，传说中一个游历于遥远幻想国度的诗人、歌手，风度偏偏、眼神忧郁，歌唱颠沛流离的命运、壮丽多姿的山河。
      在提到他如何“歌唱”前先扯点闲篇，我们总是在挑那些一“洋”到底的歌者们如此这般以及不用中文演唱的毛病，其实归其原因还是那些歌者们音乐功课未有做足，看看如今的音乐有几样不是西方人把玩出的风格、门派，中国式的音乐并非Riff里抛出段唢呐嘶鸣，提琴协奏中弄个二胡片断就能成的。只要是发自内心的情怀，只要他触动了你的一丝心扉这就足够了，无论你是把它当作娱乐的甜点或心灵的启迪。
      创作者的性格也是音乐的性格，这一点在单人组合里表现的更加脉络清晰。在第一张只有四首歌的EP《Flowing Light》中，虽然唱片被灌于了黑暗新古典/仙乐的标签，但在这四首曲子中我并未听到预想中那些跌宕起伏的弦乐，提琴协奏与长笛的交媾，缥缈的女声以及制造神秘感的异域民族元素。取而代之的是静怡、舒缓的弦乐排序和空灵、细碎的音色点缀，还有时隐时现的氛围音效。不过在听觉审美根深蒂固的惯性面前，我第一次听这些声音的时并不欢喜甚至还对这样的编排有些轻蔑之意。可当你再次安静下来仔细聆听它们的时候，你会发现那些沾染有简约风格意像的编排和音色是如此的灵动，清幽，特别是在反复聆听的过程中，歌与曲之间的界限早已不清晰而更像一种流淌的意境萦绕在耳朵周围。或是忧伤、或是追忆、或是憧憬境由心生。安静灵巧、羞涩且敏感，阴柔且忧郁或许就是这音乐的性格吧。
      从对古尔·道兰的音乐转忧为喜后，我一直对他的技术问题忐忑不安。在国内这样恶劣的音乐普及教育下，一个非科班的音乐爱好者选择这样的音乐风格进行创作，除了对音乐魅力的喜爱之外他还要遭受技艺磨练的深深折磨。幸好事实表明，古尔·道兰是个勤勉、认真的小伙儿，如果《Flowing Light》中那些偶尔蹩脚的旋律片断干巴的音色，和不太流畅的桥段安排被人津津乐道般诟病的话，那么新作品（尚未命名）中的改观确实叫人眼前一亮。流畅充满画面感的氛围，点到为止的旋律以及丰满圆润的音色都叫我心怡，除了缺少一个合适的女声外都变得很出色了。而不变的只有那种安静、忧伤的感觉。在这张新东西里面有一首翻唱——scarborough fair，淡淡的伴奏符合着古尔·道兰浅浅的吟唱肉麻点讲，让我这个年逾30的小男人隐隐动容。这小子又是个“不安分分子”之一，在对新古典音乐的尝试后还不过瘾后，如今又动起了新民谣的算盘，曼陀铃、大提琴、键琴居然都用真乐器刀刀枪枪的干了起来。我对此当然是饶有最高兴致的等待了。

　　拿到Gol Dolan的这张Demo有一段时间了，一直想写写自己的感受，却迟迟没动笔。这主要是因为Murk在推广这张专辑的时候这样评价Gol Dolan:"很纯的欧陆气质,配器编排颇有些DARK SANCTUARY般的风采"。我本人也一直在听Dark Sanctuary的一些新古典作品，但是很难从两者间找到非常相似的气质，所以总怀疑自己是否鉴赏能力欠缺，也不敢轻易下笔。
　　Gol Dolan（古尔 道兰）是传说中的诗人，游吟于遥远的幻想国度。Flowing Lights是这支来自北京的新古典乐团的首张MCD，从cover到内页设计都体现着一种淡淡的幽雅，犹如天堂射向人间的一抹柔和的光。
　　虽然同属于Neo-Classic范畴，Gol Dolan却并不如同Dark Sanctuary一般的黑暗，也可能是因为没有加入人声的缘故，使得音乐的情绪一直给人一种很舒缓的感觉，并不如同Dark Sanctuary一般的跌宕。我甚至觉得在部分段落上有New Age的影子，但是不可否认Gol Dolan是完全的欧洲气质。专辑的录音不错，给人一种晶莹剔透的感觉，相信在夏日里聆听这样一张专辑会有消暑降温之效果。整张MCD最出色的曲目无疑是第四首，鸟声、雷声的采样以及各种特效声给听者展现一幅神秘的森林画卷，森林的深处生活着精灵，穿梭于薄雾的黄昏中，异常的优美。
　　总得来说，这张专辑虽然拥有高贵的气质但其音乐实在是动静不大，酝酿的情绪的转折只在细微之间，所以需要反复地聆听和品位。不喜欢的朋友可能在一遍之后就把它束之高阁了。另外，有些录音效果显得单薄，少了一份厚实的感觉，可能是因为设备的缘故，相信正式专辑会走得更远一些。

Every once in a rare while, a review comes along. One in which you will read it, open mouthed, then think to yourself "Wow".
Let me sum this up, in two simple, tantalising, but confusing words. "Chinese Neofolk".

My testimony is that I discovered Gol Dolan when I downloaded a Dying Art label promo album. Along with other bands of the label\'s selective crop, this little beauty sat nestling.

"Misty Eventide of Violet Forest", it was titled. Mixed in with black metal, ritual ambient, and harsh electronics, I found this beautiful piece of folkish music; complete with bells, gongs, organs, and the whole plethora of orchestral monastic Musae.

Enter present day. Gol Dolan. Demo CDR. 200 copies. Not available anywhere outside China.
Except one small UK Distro, which I will come to later. Many, many prayers later, this absolute beauty sits on my sweaty palm. Quality over Quantity.

This release comes in a small cardboard slipcase, complete with above quote, beautiful traced inlay paper, and that\'s about it. No closer to understanding who Gol Dolan is, but who cares. It\'s here. It\'s mine, and It\'s a fucking miracle. I don\'t swear in reviews often, but fuck me, this fucker is fucking worth it.

As an introduction to the Gol Dolan aesthetic, "Rosary of Clouds" educates us in as much cultural sounding bliss as it\'s title does.
Imagine Ambient winds, Eastern percussion, panpipes, windchimes, gongs, wooden wind instrumentsand keyboards thrown into the cooking pot. Imagine them coming out Golden Brown, echoing the finest most delicate tunes, like only the most beautiful of porcelain dolls could ever hope to.

Not even one of the highlights. "Faded Vision", is. This is beauty. Close your eyes. Lie back.
Turn this up. You are floating above a crystal city. Pagodas ziggurat before you, a beauty matched only by the stars themselves. On top of this, an Oracle strums his Lute, directing his notes to your soul. Dying Art? I can only hope this one is alive.

"Orasul de Floci" is the darkest track here, it has more of a feel of discordance, and although it is very pretty in it\'s own way, it is also very traditionally Chinese. Think Li Chao sat doing an Enemite acoustic set, but without the urge to stab a thousand ritual Athames into your Sternum.
The song cheers up anyway, Drums (a first for this release), and a sharp rise in tempo.

Bringing us to "Misty Eventide of Violet Forest", Do I really need to introduce this again?
If you haven\'t heard this, you haven\'t heard beauty. Well, you probably have, but you haven\'t heard this. I won\'t elaborate much on the aforementioned description, but I will say this, and for once ignore the hyperbolé. This is a typical bi-product of Neofolk, (and eastern music per se), in that the best and most wonderful sounds are always the last to get discovered. In fact, for those of you who frequent the peer to peer networks, search for Dying Arts releases. You may find several hits for all, but nothing for Gol Dolan. I am going to change this. Be sure to buy, and not download the previously mentioned albums, of course.

Anyway, carrying out this Ethereal portfolo is "Whispering Moly". Admittedly, I don\'t know if this is Moly in the sense of someone\'s name, or an object, but who ever Moly is, s/he has a beautiful voice.
There is even a dark choir here, in the background. Possibly Buddhist or Shinto?

No Más, Choirs in ambient music are GOOD. IF they are done well. Which Isn\'t so often. Acoustic bliss.

So Let\'s push the music aside, and cater for all the consumers out there. You want to hear this.How the fuck do you find it?

Well, it took me a fair old while. Firstly, remember it\'s very limited. Secondly, you will almost certainly have to order from China. Apart from one guy. This Demo is available from a small UK based distro. I couldn\'t believe it either. At the bargain price of £3.50, I strongly urge you to snap this up.
